St. Vincent Ferrer Parish Church in Lipa City

Today is the feast of St. Vincent Ferrer. He died April 5, 1419 but his missionary works to help the needy and spread the Gospel have always been celebrated by Batanguenos together with many Catholics.

From an improvised chapel made of bamboo and coconut husks in 1912 to the present day  simply constructed yet frequently visited St. Vincent Ferrer Church, the devotion began in Lipa City. The people's deep faith brought to the establishment of the parish where their masses could be celebrated every Sunday. Through the initiative of Nanay Cela, an old blind lady and Claudio Laylo, an image of St. Vincent Ferrer, was acquired with the fund raised in 1913 and in 1943, St. Vincent Ferrer parish was then erected in Bagong Pook, Banay Banay  right after it was chosen as the seat of the parish. Since then, people flocked to the parish to ask favors to the pintakasi. The church was then renovated with Father Gaudencio Rosales who had been appointed parish priest by Bishop Alejandro Olalia in 1917.

St. Vincent Ferrer, the parish's patron Saint, is the patron saint of the builders because of his fame in building up and strengthening the church through his preaching, missionary work, in his teachings, as confessor and adviser.

In Batangas, the St. Vincent Ferrer has been acknowledged as the patron saint of the sick which is the main reason why most of the devotees who visit the parish are the old and the sick. Every 5th day of April people from the city and nearby cities and municipalities come over to celebrate the holiness of St. Vincent Ferrer.
